Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has said that the upcoming by-elections across the country will serve as a test of Kenyans’ commitment to meaningful change.

According to the legislator, the outcomes will play a key role in shaping the future of leadership in Kenya.

In a strongly worded statement shared on his X account on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Amisi emphasised that the by-elections are more than just routine political events; they are a reflection of the country’s political will.

He pointed out that seven parliamentary by-elections must be conducted before the end of the year. These include the Baringo Senatorial seat and parliamentary seats in Ugunja, Kasipul, Malava, Banissa, Magarini, and Mbeere North.

According to Amisi, the by-elections will reveal whether Kenyans are serious about liberating the country from poor leadership. He challenged voters to make decisive choices, saying the outcome would determine who gets to complain about governance in the future.

“We must conduct by by-election at a parliamentary level before the end of this year: Baringo senator Ugunja Kasipul Malava Banissa Magharini, Mbeere North. We must know the truth about #RutoMustGo,” he noted.

Adding;

“We must know which Kenyans are serious about liberating this country and why! The by-elections shall provide the parameters on the sound of the decibels, where it is louder, loudest or mute, and why!”

He warned that those who vote for candidates from the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition should not expect sympathy if things go wrong in the country. He likened voting to a sacred responsibility that citizens cannot take lightly.

“Those who will vote for Kenya Kwanza candidates should never ever again complain about anything wrong in this country until Jesus comes back to take the pure in heart,” Amisi stated.

Amisi stressed that these by-elections will reveal the political temperatures in various parts of the country, showing where the desire for change is loudest or completely absent.

“Kenyans must make a difficult decision, and we must close this topic of complaining about leadership while all sovereign power is drying on your indelible inked finger!”

Expected by-elections

In Kasipul Constituency, a by-election has been necessitated following the tragic assassination of sitting MP Charles Were. He was gunned down in a targeted shooting in Nairobi on May 1, 2025. Were, a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), had been re-elected in 2022. The probe into his gruesome murder is still ongoing.

In Mandera County’s Banissa Constituency, the seat has remained vacant since the death of MP Kulow Maalim Hassan in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident in Nairobi on March 25, 2023. Although the vacancy was officially declared on April 21, 2023, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been unable to hold a by-election due to the lack of commissioners to oversee the process.

Meanwhile, in Kilifi County’s Magarini Constituency, the Supreme Court nullified the election of MP Harrison Kombe. The court cited serious electoral malpractices, including ballot stuffing and tampering with results. It ordered a fresh by-election to be conducted by the IEBC.

Malava Constituency in Kakamega County is also headed for a by-election following the death of MP Malulu Injendi.
