Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has shared the government’s commitment to elevate the famous Mungoma Caves in Vihiga County into a recognised national shrine to enhance local tourism for the Maragoli community.

Mudavadi confirmed the commitment after taking a walk through the natural features, regarded as the womb and sacred shrine of the Maragoli people, fondly known as ”Hango Humulogoli”, the home of Mulogoli, the legendary founder and hero of the Maragoli community, on Saturday, December 27, 2025.

He marvelled at the caves formed by massive boulders resting together to create winding hollow passages within. ”Stepping inside feels like entering a mythical underworld, rich with history, folklore, and the spiritual identity of the Maragoli people. It is truly a sight that invites reflection and appreciation,” the Prime CS took to X on Sunday, December 28, 2025.

”Working through the Ministries of Tourism and Wildlife, and Sports, Culture and Heritage, I will be advancing a proposal to establish a clear development framework. This will focus on improving road access, power connectivity, and water supply, while empowering the local community to unlock economic opportunities and transform the area into a vibrant and sustainable heritage destination,” he added.

Celebrating M’logoli culture

Musalia Mudavadi has used his festive season break to engage with the Vihiga County natives. On Friday, December 26, 2025, the Prime CS was part of an ”exciting and uplifting” moment at the Mbale Municipal Grounds as the Maragoli community came together to celebrate the rich M’logoli culture under the theme “UVWAMI NI MIANDU,” loosely translated to mean leadership is wealth.

”The atmosphere was vibrant, purposeful and deeply rooted in identity. I was particularly impressed by the deliberate effort of the planning committee to actively involve the youth. Young people carry fresh ideas, restless energy and immense talent. To remain relevant and future-focused, we must intentionally create space for new voices, adapt to changing times and continuously infuse fresh blood into our cultural institutions, or risk losing touch with the very generation that carries our future.” Mudavadi said.

According to Mudavadi, even at 46 years old, the Logooli Cultural Festival is steadily marching toward a historic milestone, its first semicentennial, with the Golden Jubilee at 50 years now clearly in sight.
