Inside President William Ruto’s Nyanza development tour

President William Ruto on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, kicked off his development tour in the Nyanza region.

The four-day tour will see Ruto launch government projects in Migori, Homa Bay, Siaya and Kisumu counties.

On Wednesday, Ruto will kick off his tour in Migori County where he will launch the Kegonga Cluster Water Project and inspect the Lower Kuja Irrigation Project.

He will close his project tour in Migori with a launch of the Ngere-Mapera Road on Wednesday.

On Thursday, August 29, 2024, Ruto will tour Homa Bay County where he will commission the Oyugis Water Project, inspect the Homa Bay Fish Market and launch the Rusinga Ring Road.

The President will also attend a thanksgiving service for newly appointed Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi.

Ruto in Siaya

On his third day of the tour, Friday, August 30, 2024, the president will be in Siaya County where he will commission the Mageta Island Solar PV Mini Grid and launch the Siaya ESP Market and the Siaya Rice Mill.

He will close his tour in Siaya by attending a thanksgiving service for newly appointed Cabinet Secretary of Energy and Petroleum Opiyo Wandayi.

On his fourth day, Saturday, August 31, 2024, he will be in Kisumu County to commission the Kisumu Marine School, the Kibos Rice Mill and the Lumumba Affordable Housing Project.

The President will close his Nyanza tour on Saturday by commissioning the Nyabondo Trauma Centre in Kisumu.

Ruto’s bromance with Raila

The tour comes at a time Ruto is enjoying a newfound friendship with opposition leader Raila Odinga, who is considered the political kingpin for the Nyanza region.

At least four Raila allies were appointed as cabinet secretaries including two from Nyanza (Mbadi and Wandayi, one from the coast region (Ali Hassan Joho) and one from Western (Wycliffe Oparanya).

On Tuesday, August 28, 2024, Ruto launched Raila’s campaign for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC).

Calling up Africans to rally behind Raila, Ruto said that the assignment at the AUC is a noble cause aimed to bring freedom and democracy, stability and security, peace and prosperity.

“The assignment we are called upon to undertake at the African Union Commission is the work of all Africans, for all Africans and a noble cause to bring our peoples and nations in touch with the promise of the glorious future we all deserve. A new chapter in our common journey has begun, and we shall travel on this road to freedom and democracy, stability and security, peace and prosperity, with all our people, all their leaders, governments and our partners throughout the world,” Ruto said.

“We take this assignment seriously and have entrusted it to a most capable steward.”
