Wiper endorses Anthony Kisoi for Mumbuni North seat ahead of by-election

The Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) has unveiled Anthony Kisoi as its flagbearer for the upcoming Mumbuni North Ward by-election set for November 27, 2025.

The announcement was made by Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, who emphasised the party’s focus on consolidating influence in the Lower Eastern region and across the country.

The by-election follows the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) declaration of nine vacant MCA seats on August 14, 2025, setting the stage for heightened political activity.

Governor Ndeti rallies support

Governor Ndeti urged residents to back Kisoi, describing him as a leader with integrity and a proven record of service.

“To the people of Mumbuni North Ward, our party, Wiper Patriotic Front, has unveiled Anthony Kisoi as the candidate for the upcoming by-election. Let’s rally behind him because his victory is not just his alone; it’s a win for our party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, and a proud triumph for the entire Kamba community,” she said in a statement on X.

Ndeti further congratulated Kisoi, noting that his dedication to community service embodies the leadership values that WPF seeks to advance.

“Congratulations to Anthony Kyalo Kisoi on being officially unveiled as the Wiper Patriotic Front candidate for the upcoming Mumbuni North Ward by-election. Your track record of service, integrity, and dedication truly reflects the leadership our community deserves. Anthony, I wish you well as you embark on this leadership journey to serve the people of Mumbuni North Ward,” Wavinya Ndeti’s statement read.

Party rebrand

Kisoi’s endorsement comes as WPF pushes forward with its rebranding efforts, aimed at broadening its national reach. Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, the party leader, recently welcomed media and youth development expert Gor Semelang’o into the National Executive Council (NEC).

Musyoka described the move as timely, saying Semelang’o’s experience in youth empowerment and media engagement will be key in appealing to Kenya’s youthful demographic. The rebrand, marked by a shift from the Wiper Democratic Movement to the Wiper Patriotic Front, is anchored on the slogan #KomboaKenya, symbolising liberation, inclusivity, and a renewed vision for governance.

Shaping the road to 2027

The by-election is also unfolding against a backdrop of shifting political alliances. Parliamentary Service Commissioner Johnson Muthama, a former Machakos Senator and influential figure within the ruling UDA, has hinted at backing Musyoka’s 2027 presidential bid—conditional on his securing the opposition coalition’s ticket.

“Let him first get the certificate, and if he comes over with it, then I will tell you which direction to take,” Muthama said during a Kitui gathering on August 24, 2025.

As WPF positions itself for the 2027 general election, the Mumbuni North Ward contest will serve as a litmus test of its renewed strategy. With Kisoi on the ballot, Semelang’o reinforcing the NEC, and potential heavyweight support from Muthama, the party is seeking to solidify its regional dominance while projecting national relevance.
