Willis Otieno faults Kindiki’s office for extravagance amid biting economic times

By , November 24, 2025

City lawyer Willis Otieno has put the office of the Deputy President in the spotlight for overspending its budget by 50 per cent of the stipulated amount as per the allocation from the public coffers.

Taking to X on Monday, November 24, 2025, Otieno argued that the DP’s office is displaying extravagance amid the difficult economic days in the country, blowing a whopping Ksh1.1 billion in a span of three months.

Blowing cash

”The Office of the Deputy President has overspent its budget by 50 per cent. In just three months, they’ve blown through Ksh1.1 billion against an allocation of Ksh743 million. Three months, Ksh1.1 billion. For an office that produces nothing, solves nothing, and spends its days in political theatre,” Willis Otieno stated.

The lawyer has called out the DP’s office for using the cash allocations wrongly while key sectors such as health are crippled.

”This is a cash-burning festival at the expense of a starving country. While Kenyans tighten their belts, this office expands its stomach. While hospitals lack drugs and universities collapse, they find new ways to chew more than Parliament ever approved. If this is how they treat public funds in one quarter, what will a full financial year look like? A runaway train with no brakes,” the statement added.

Willis Otieno further blasted state officials for hypocrisy. ”The same people have the audacity to lecture citizens about ‘living within our means.’ They overspend by 50 per cent, then preach austerity. Hypocrisy has found a new headquarters. This is why we say the real state of the nation is theft, not transformation,” he said.

Wamae raises alarm

At the same time, former Roots Party 2022 presidential running mate Justina Wamae has put the Treasury in the spotlight over Ksh2.7 trillion in domestic borrowing as per the Auditor General’s findings.

Wamae has regretted the ‘problems’ the Kenya Kwanza administration has put its citizens into. ”The money meant for development and refinancing was instead used for daily government spending. Ama hii pesa is funding UDA candidates ‘ election campaigns, empowerment and travels? Bear in mind that 68 per cent of ordinary revenue is going to debt repayment, pensions and subscriptions to international organisations. The problem tutam has put this country in is beyond wantam shenanigans.” Justina Wamae took to X on Monday, November 24, 2025.
