Why ODM Nairobi chairlady wants Ida Odinga to continue voting in Kibra

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Nairobi Chairlady Catherine Okoth has made an emotional appeal to Mama Ida Odinga, urging her to continue voting in Kibra, a constituency long seen as the political heartbeat of the late Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a visit to Opoda Farm in Siaya, where she joined other ODM leaders and supporters to pay their respects to the former prime minister on Friday, November 7, 2025, Okoth said Mama Ida should not change her voting station as a symbolic act of loyalty to Raila’s legacy.

“Mama Ida Odinga, I know you vote in Kibra. Do not change your voting location. Please do not change it when you come to vote in Kibra. We will be seeing Baba. Do not leave, I beseech you, continue taking care of us,” she pleaded.

Her remarks struck an emotional chord among ODM supporters who have continued to mourn Raila, a man remembered as the face of Kenya’s democratic struggle. Okoth’s message reflected not just a personal appeal but a call to unity for the ODM family, which continues to realign and reorganise in the wake of Raila’s passing.

Baba aliwakilisha na akaweka mpangilio vizuri sisi tuko vyema. Alijua akaweka Vice Chair in Wanga and deputies in Arati, Nassir na Osotsi,” she added, expressing confidence in the leadership structure Raila left behind.

The ODM Nairobi chairlady praised Raila’s foresight in grooming leaders who would carry on his political vision, describing the party’s current leadership as a reflection of his wisdom and deep understanding of the country’s political landscape.

Okoth’s words come at a time when the Orange Democratic Movement is still navigating the emotional and political vacuum left by Raila’s death.

Her call to Mama Ida was both symbolic and sentimental, a reminder that Kibra, where Raila’s political journey found one of its strongest roots, remains a cornerstone of his enduring legacy.

The visit to Opoda Farm was marked by tributes, reflection, and renewed pledges of unity within the ODM family.
