Wetang’ula urges Malava residents to back UDA’s Ndakwa in by-elections

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has appealed to the residents of Malava to back United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Ndakwa in the upcoming by-elections slated for November 29, 2025.

In a statement on his X page on Sunday, October 26, 2025, the speaker emphasised that their interest would be adequately addressed if they elect a leader allied to the incumbent regime.

Collaboration

He stressed that such a leader would facilitate cooperation with President William Ruto’s government and continue the development projects in the region.

“We urged the people of Malava to support UDA candidate Moses Ndakwa in the upcoming by-election, noting that his victory will strengthen collaboration between Malava and the national government under the Kenya Kwanza administration.”

“I reminded residents that this by-election is an opportunity to elect a leader who will work with the government to deliver development through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA),” he said.

Wetang’ula’s sentiments were echoed by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who equally vouched for Ndakwa’s candidacy.

This comes after Farouk Kibet led the UDA campaign blitz in Malava ahead of the by-election.

The Malava divide!

The Kikuyu MP reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equitable growth, adding that a UDA legislator would give Malava a stronger voice in national development.

The foregoing comes as Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale vowed to stay put in his support of his professional colleague and Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) candidate Seth Panyako.

Speaking on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Malava, Khalwale insisted that he will not back down despite threats by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party to de-whip him as Senate Majority Whip.

No compromise

“There is no compromise. Those threats of firing me. They are forcing me to take a stand against my community for a mere position. I cannot fight my house because of the positions. I was a Luhya before I became an MP, a senator, and a government chief whip,” he said.

The senator has stated that ranks and positions are transient and will one day come to pass.

“One day, all these positions will go away, and I will remain a Luhya,” he stated.

Khalwale’s remarks stemmed from UDA’s move to rein him in for breaching the party’s code over his support for Panyako.
