West Pokot MCAs file petition to impeach County Speaker
West Pokot County speaker Catherine Mukenyang has downplayed a move by a section of MCAs who have petitioned the county assembly to impeach her.
The 26 MCAs led by Endough MCA Evanson Lomandy filed the petition citing a poor working environment where they claim the speaker is too bossy.
Speaking to the press at Kapenguria, Mukenyang dismissed the move as a witch hunt after she declined their advances to squander public funds.
“The move comes after I refused their move to have them award themselves bursaries in violation of the law and we as county assembly have all the evidence including bank statements. So my move to save the public funds is the key issue in their impeachment motion,” she stated.
Mukenyang has claimed her woes are brought by the area governor who has sponsored the motion saying he won’t relent on her fight in saving West Pokot public properties.
“I won’t bow down. We will fight to the latter to ensure they do not squander public resources which they are eyeing to divide among themselves,” she added.
She says that she may be forced to find other ways of addressing the issue.
“I know it is God who put us in that office to serve the locals and if they push further we may be forced to find other ways of pushing mwananchi’s agenda.”
Mukenyang’ believes her woes started when she showed interest in the Woman’s Rep seat where the sitting governor started fighting her using fictitious claims.
“We have information of the governor’s undertaking in the impeachment process as he wants his cronies to be voted in and fears some of us for being truthful.”
