We were all along together – Speaker Muturi reveals as he joins Ruto’s camp

By , April 9, 2022

Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has joined Deputy President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza coalition today ahead of August polls.

Muturi, who has been the presidential flag bearer for Democratic Party (DP) has signed a coalition agreement with Ruto and other Kenya Kwanza leaders in readiness for submission to the Registrar of Political Parties.

According to sources within his camp, Muturi is joining Ruto in the capacity of being the DP party leader and not as an individual.

The political development makes Muturi the latest leader from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region to support the presidential bid of the second in command after political heavyweights such as former Kiambu governor William Kabogo, TSP Leader Mwangi Kiunjuri, CCK party leader Moses Kuria and Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi joined Ruto’s presidential campaigns.

Muturi who is the first Speaker to serve since the reestablishment of a bicameral Parliament, as mandated by the 2010 Constitution is hoped to not only help Ruto bag more votes from Mt Kenya but to also bring with him a wealth of political and administrative experience to the camp that will be battling it out with Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition flagbearer Raila Odinga.

The development comes in the wake of heated politics across the country with every presidential hopeful crisscrossing the nation seeking to woo Kenyans to vote in their favour come August 9.
