We are open to working with like-minded leaders – OKA principals
One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals have said they are open for talks with like-minded leaders ahead of August 9 general election.
Speaking on Wednesday when they signed Deed of Assignment, Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Cirus Jirongo (UDP), Martha Karua (Narc-K) and Gideon Moi (KANU) said they were willing to welcome other parties to join them and not vise versa.
Kalonzo, in his speech, sensationally dismissed any hopes of joining Kenya Kwanza that is headed by Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), William Ruto (UDA) and Moses Wetangula (Ford-K).
“It is Kenya Kwanza or Kenya Kwisha?” Kalonzo posed in reference to the coalition.
KANU boss, who read the statement on behalf of the alliance, said OKA is committed to delivering victory.
“We are open to serious engagement with other political formations that we share the same ideology.
“This will involve open and structured negotiations which must include the country’s grappling debt portfolio, creation of jobs for the youth among other issues,” Gideon said.
On her part, the Narc-K leader Martha Karua revealed that Mount Kenya Unity Forum is also in talks with OKA.
“Coalition is not a jail. The doors are open for incoming partners and everybody is free to exercise their democratic freedom. We are on solid ground,” she said.
Ahead of the event, rumour was rife that OKA was joining Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja Movement today after Mudavadi and Wetangula decamped to Ruto’s camp last week.
