Wavinya Ndeti condemns attack on Kalonzo, calls out political intolerance
By Kiprono Keileb, August 29, 2025Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has strongly condemned the attack on Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka yesterday at Tharaka Nithi county, terming it an alarming sign of rising political intolerance in the country.
In a statement posted on her X account on Friday, August 29, 2025, Ndeti described the incident as a troubling reflection of the divisive politics seeping into national discourse.
“The political intolerance that our party leader encountered is utterly unacceptable,” she said, stressing that leaders and citizens alike must reject such behaviour.
She warned that unchecked hostility in the political arena could easily escalate into a path of chaos.

“We must collectively condemn this behaviour as it leads down a perilous path,” Ndeti noted, calling for unity and respect in engagements across political divides.
The attack on Kalonzo occurred during his public engagements in Tharaka Nithi, where his convoy was reportedly confronted by groups seeking to disrupt the rallies. Kalonzo later brushed off the incident, insisting that intimidation would not derail the Wiper Party’s movement.
“No amount of thuggery and goonism will stop the #WANTAM Movement, which is not just a reality but the eventuality,” he said.
Governor Ndeti echoed his resilience, insisting that Kenyans must never allow violence and intolerance to silence democratic expression. She appealed to political leaders to set the tone for a tolerant and respectful environment, especially as the country approaches another election cycle.
“Our democracy is strengthened when we engage in ideas, not intimidation. Let us stand united against such divisiveness and uphold the values of respect and tolerance in our political discourse,” she said

Her remarks add to growing voices within the Wiper Party demanding accountability for the incident and assurances of safety for leaders engaging with citizens. The party maintains that political competition should never degenerate into chaos, urging institutions to safeguard the democratic space.
For Ndeti, the attack was not just an assault on Kalonzo but on the values of dialogue and tolerance that Kenya’s political landscape urgently needs.
