Wanjiku Muhia: We will not allow voters from elsewhere to vote in Ol Kalou by-elections
Tension is beginning to build ahead of the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election after Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia warned that residents will not allow outsiders to interfere with the voting process or influence the outcome of the highly anticipated contest.
Speaking on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Muhia claimed there were plans to transport people from other counties into Ol Kalou in an attempt to manipulate the by-election, insisting local residents were fully aware of one another and would resist any such efforts.
“We will not allow people to be brought from other counties to vote in Ol Kalou. Ol Kalou people know each other in clans and we will not allow voters from outside to take part in the by-elections,” Muhia said.
The legislator further alleged that there were plans to use criminal elements to interfere with the electoral process, warning that residents would remain vigilant throughout the campaign period.
Muhia warns against election interference
Muhia accused unnamed individuals of planning to disrupt the by-election through intimidation and illegal voter mobilisation from outside the constituency.
“We know they are planning to bring goons and criminals to try and rig the elections and we will not allow that,” she stated.
Her remarks come as political activity intensifies around the Ol Kalou race, which is increasingly attracting national political attention ahead of the 2027 General Election realignments.
Opposition pushing for one candidate
The latest warning comes days after Caroli Omondi urged opposition parties to unite behind a single candidate in order to improve their chances in the by-election.
Speaking during an interview on K24 TV on June 10, Omondi said opposition outfits should put aside political differences and settle on one flag bearer to challenge the ruling party candidate.

“We do not want to take sides in the by-election. The best option is for the opposition to agree on one candidate,” Omondi said.
Ol Kalou shaping into key political battle
Omondi further stated that once opposition parties agree on a consensus candidate, the Linda Mwananchi movement would fully mobilise support on the ground and campaign aggressively for victory.
“So that you know, as Linda Mwananchi, we don’t want to go there and take sides, but if there’s one person from the opposition, it’s easy; we will go and campaign for that person, and I’m very sure we will win Ol Kalou,” he said.
With campaigns gathering momentum, the
Ol Kalou by-election is now emerging as a major political test that could shape opposition unity and influence wider political dynamics heading toward the 2027 General Election.
