Businessman-cum-politician Jimi Wanjigi has intensified his 2027 political push after launching a new Safina Party office in Homa Bay, in what looks like a calculated move into a region long considered a stronghold of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Taking to his official X account on Friday, May 1, 2026, Wanjigi framed the expansion as part of a broader strategy to connect with communities that feel economically marginalised, signalling a shift toward grassroots mobilisation in regions traditionally aligned with the Orange party, which is currently in unending wrangles over zoning during the 2027 general elections.

“Today, we opened our doors in Homa Bay. We have come home to a community that has long understood what it means to be overlooked and underserved,” Wanjigi said after unveiling the office.

Targeting economic frustrations

Wanjigi used the launch to push his core campaign message centred on economic liberation, arguing that political freedom alone is insufficient without addressing financial inequality and systemic economic challenges.

“Safina is built on one foundational conviction: that Kenyans must be liberated, economically. Not just politically free, but free from debt that does not serve them, free from a system that taxes the poor to protect the wealthy, free from a government that hoards billions while its people go without healthcare and education,” he stated.

Direct play for ODM turf

Homa Bay, located in the Nyanza region, has been a key political base for ODM for over a decade.

Wanjigi’s decision to establish a Safina presence there signals a bold attempt to chip away at that dominance ahead of the next general election.

By framing his message around economic justice rather than party loyalty, Wanjigi appears to be targeting disillusioned voters who may feel left behind despite long-standing political affiliations.

Building a national footprint

The Safina Party leader has in recent months stepped up his visibility, positioning himself as an outsider challenger to Kenya’s established political order. The Homa Bay office is expected to serve as a regional hub for mobilisation, recruitment, and policy messaging.

Wanjigi suggested that the party’s expansion into Nyanza is deliberate, citing the region’s lived experience with economic hardship as a key reason for the move.

“The people of Homa Bay understand this reality as intimately as any community in this country. That is precisely why we are here,” he said.

Siaya and Kisumu offices

The opening of the Homa Bay office comes days after Wanjigi opened the Safina party’s office in Siaya amid zoning and disquiet in the ODM party ahead of the 2027 polls.

He presided over the launch on Saturday, April 18, 2026, as part of a double opening that also included the Kisumu County office.

The Siaya office sits along the Ng’iya–Siaya Road, just before Barding Junction. The Kisumu office is in the Buoye area.

Wanjigi made his position clear in a post on X later that day. He stressed that the new office does not serve as decoration.

“This is not an office for show. It is a working centre, a place where we organise, listen, and build with the people,” he wrote.
