Wanga: Sifuna is not a mandatory ODM bank accounts signatory
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairperson Gladys Wanga has moved to clarify the party’s financial operations, stating that not all signatories to the party’s bank accounts hold equal authority in approving transactions.
Her remarks come at a time when internal debates within ODM have intensified, with questions emerging over leadership roles and control of party structures, including finances.
Speaking during a televised interview on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Wanga explained that although several officials are listed as signatories to ODM accounts, only one office holds the mandatory authority to approve.
“Sifuna is a signatory to the party account but not a mandatory signatory. The only person who is a mandatory signatory to the ODM account is the treasurer,” Wanga stated.
She added that once the treasurer appraises a transaction, any of the other authorized officials can append their signatures to complete the process.
“Once he signs a cheque any of the seven signatories can co-sign,” she added.
According to party structures, ODM operates under a formal leadership framework that includes a National Treasurer, a position currently held by Timothy Bosire, alongside other senior officials such as the Secretary-General and chairperson. This structure governs not only political decisions but also administrative and financial processes within the party.
Wanga’s clarification appears aimed at addressing speculation surrounding the role of Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna in party finances. As the Secretary-General, Sifuna is among key officials involved in the party’s day-to-day operations, but Wanga emphasised that financial authorisation ultimately rests with the treasurer.
The ODM chairperson, who also serves as the Governor of Homa Bay County, has recently been at the forefront of efforts to steady the party amid internal disagreements and leadership transitions. She has repeatedly maintained that party processes, including financial management, are guided strictly by established rules and constitutional provisions.
Wanga’s statement is likely to play a key role in ongoing discussions within the party, as leaders seek to reinforce institutional order and maintain unity ahead of upcoming political activities.
