Wamuchomba predicts Ruto-Gachagua handshake

Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has speculated on a potential reconciliation between President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after the speeches of the two leaders during the requim mass of the kate Olkalau MP David Njugua on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Gathoni Wamuchomba shared her perspective on how the handshake might unfold and what it could mean for local development.

Wamuchomba pointed out Gachagua’s political acumen, suggesting that Gachagua is already warming up for the handshake with the president.

Wamuchomba shared her personal role in what she called unfolding negotiations, framing it with a sense of confidence and readiness, adding that she will be the one welcoming the former Deputy President.

Wamuchomba also stressed the importance of pausing political quarrels to focus on tangible development projects that benefit communities, urging leaders to set aside differences and work together.

“Wacheni Matusi kwa sasa tuwekewe Lami, na tupate share yetu ya development, wakisalimiana tuwe tumeomoka, Angalao tusivae gumboots huku kwetu Tena,” Wamuchomba wrote.

President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua came face to face at the Requiem Mass of the late Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

Gachagua was accompanied by his brigades led by Nyandarua Senator John Methu.

The Requiem Mass became both a moment of mourning and a subtle political stage, with Gachagua affirming he would attend despite opposition calls to stay away due to President Ruto’s presence. He emphasised that no one could prevent him or his supporters from paying their respects to the late MP.
