Wamuchomba: Gachagua using intimidation, insults to coerce me to join DCP
By Joel Masibo, January 5, 2026Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is intimidating and using insults, coercing her to join the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Taking to X on Monday, January 5, 2026, the Githunguri legislator claimed the DCP leader is using insults to try to get her to decamp from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and join his political outfit as alliances heading into the next general election take shape.

However, Wamuchomba noted that she will not be joining Gachagua’s camp, adding that she will continue to pitch camp in UDA until 2027. She recalled the same treatment during the 2023 Finance Bill voting.
Gachagua’s game-plan
”Sasa Wamunyoro anatumia kifua na matusi to intimidate me to join DCP. I need to lay bare facts for him. When he was DP, he did the same to intimidate me when I voted NO for the Finance Bill 2023. God deflated him painfully. He “started” a party, which he claims is a “mlima” party, and all of us must join. Yet from ORPP records, he’s not even an official! Let alone a party leader,” Wamuchomba said.
She accused Gachagua of using the Kiambu County Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa in his tricks to woo her. ”He’s using Sen Karungo to demean those not in the “Mlima” party. Karungo is still a UDA senator screaming about another party. If really this party is strong, why can’t Methu, Karungo and Nyutu resign first then we elect them through their new masikio party? I’m not joining Maskio party, and I’m in UDA till 2027,” she added.
In February 2025, Wamuchomba hinted at the possibility of joining Gachagua’s DCP if it aligns with her principles and expectations. She made it clear that she remains open to shifting alliances should the new party prove to be a viable vehicle for her political aspirations.

Weighing options
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station via a live video from Boston on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Gathoni addressed growing questions about whether she would consider joining DCP before it was unveiled by Gachagua later in the year.
“I have a different opinion when it comes to Wamunyoro. I will join whoever comes in and encompasses my principles and my expectations for the next government. So if he comes in and tells me, ‘I have this political vehicle that is going to deliver whatever it is that I am fighting for,’ I will be at liberty to make my decision. But as of now, I am watching,” she stated.
Despite vowing to stay in UDA, Wamuchomba has also claimed that President William Ruto’s support in the entire Mount Kenya region has shifted heading into the 2027 general election.
