Wamuchomba defends Kenya Moja leaders against traitor claims
By Kenneth Mwenda, October 9, 2025Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has hit back at critics who branded her and other Kenya Moja leaders traitors, calling them insecure and divisive.
Speaking on Thursday, October 9, 2025, through her social media pages, Wamuchomba defended her stand against President William Ruto, accusing her critics of hypocrisy and calling for unity among those opposed to his rule. Wamuchomba said no one owns the movement or its slogan.
“Nobody holds the key as a gatekeeper for the Wantam movement. Those branding others as traitors are insecure. I opposed Ruto even before others could get the courage to stop him,” she said.

The MP reminded Kenyans that she voted against the 2023 Finance Bill when many of her current critics backed Ruto’s tax measures.
“Those branding us today joined Ruto in condemning me for voting No for Finance Bill 2023,” she said.
Tea farmers feel betrayed
She linked the country’s economic troubles, including low tea prices, to Ruto’s leadership. Her remarks came days after small-scale tea farmers from the West Rift threatened to stop supplying the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) over poor bonuses. The farmers blamed the government’s handling of the tea sector, saying they would explore other buyers.

Wamuchomba said leaders who supported Ruto’s policies had betrayed farmers, students, and salaried workers.
“The Kenya MOJA movement is made up of MPs who have been consistent in flagging and condemning Ruto’s flaws. Those branding others now betrayed Kenyans and supported bad policies affecting today’s tea farmers, students, and payslip earners. Ruto must go!” she declared.
Her comments come amid growing political tension. The Wantam slogan, which Gachagua recently described as the country’s dominant political narrative, has gained momentum across Kenya, symbolising public dissatisfaction with the government.
