Wamuchomba defends her reasons for political shift camping

By , March 11, 2026

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has strongly denied claims that her recent political shift is for her own benefit. Wamuchomba made it clear in a long statement that her choices are based on her duty to serve the people who elected her and look out for their best interests, not on getting ahead in her career or in politics.

Speaking in a morning interview on a local TV station on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Wamuchomba addressed critics who have accused her of changing political camps for selfish reasons.

She used the platform to outline her principles and explain why her political moves are centred on the welfare of her constituents.

“All these people are my friends, and since my days in the media, I have been friends with many people. I have a gift for making friends and maintaining them, and I try as much as possible not to keep political grudges. I have principles that align with my political friends and others that do not. People get mad when they see me in different political factions,” Wamuchomba said.

Politics as a Game of Interests

Wamuchomba emphasised that her visibility across different political camps should not be mistaken for a lack of principles, but it shows that personal relationships often go beyond party lines. She said that her ability to keep friends on both sides of the political spectrum helps her work with a wide range of leaders to help her constituents.

The legislator went on to explain her approach to politics, saying that it was a way to help the people she represented.

“Politics is a game of interests. It is about who elected you and what their needs are to protect their interests, irrespective of their voting pattern in the future,” Wamuchomba added.

Wamuchomba’s Political Shifts

Gathoni Wamuchomba’s political journey has seen several notable shifts. She was elected in the 2022 general elections on a United Democratic Alliance ticket. Over the past three years, she has occasionally appeared alongside leaders from opposition factions during public events.

Most recently, she publicly backed the current administration, saying that it was a strategic move to protect the interests of her constituents. Wamuchomba says that these changes show her practical approach to politics and her dedication to her voters, not her own ambition.

Wamuchomba wants to set the record straight by making her intentions clear. She says that her political journey is guided by principles that put people first, not by opportunism.
