Wambugu urges Jubilee Party to mirror ODM after opening aspirant forum
Former Nyeri Town MP Wambugu Ngunjiri has urged the Jubilee Party to emulate the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after the party opened an aspirant registration forum.
In a statement shared on his social media pages on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Ngunjiri, who has been critical of his Jubilee Party, said this is the kind of process he expects to see in the Jubilee Party before party officials formally declare anyone as the party’s presidential candidate.

“He praised ODM for its approach, saying it sets a useful example for internal party democracy and structured candidate selection. This is the kind of thing I expect to see from our Jubilee Party before officials of the party declare anyone THE presidential candidate of the party. Well done, ODM,” he stated.
Defending Jubilee aspirants

Ngunjiri was recently summoned by the Jubilee Party leadership over his establishment of the Jubilee Party’s aspirant forum. He has been voicing the mistreatment of aspirants by the Jubilee Party leadership
In a past presser while defending Jubilee aspirants, he noted that other parties encourage their aspirants to meet regularly and hold forums to market and energise the party, but in Jubilee, such efforts are met with threats and intimidation.
He stated that a big party like Jubilee should not be afraid of its members when they decide to gather to popularise the party.
“Since when did it become an offence for the members and aspiring leaders to meet and discuss the future? (5:21) Since when did politics and consultation become misconduct? (5:24) Since when did mobilisation become misconduct?” he posed.
He dared the secretary general to proceed with the disciplinary action and challenged him to specify which party clauses he had violated, adding that he is ready to appear before any lawful process for disciplinary proceedings.
Matiangi’s inactivity

In a statement shared on his social media platforms late on Saturday, April 11, 2026, the outspoken politician demanded to know Matiang’i’s whereabouts amid growing concerns about his visibility on the national stage.
Wambugu went further to suggest that the party should begin rallying behind former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni, who also serves as the Jubilee Party deputy leader, as their flag bearer.
