Wambugu Ngunjiri faults DCP for blaming older parties over Mt Kenya division

By , September 27, 2025

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has faulted the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) for accusing older parties of creating disunity in the Mt Kenya region.

In a statement shared on his social media pages on Saturday, September 27, 2025, he argued that the new party, which was formed just six months ago, cannot accuse others of dividing votes while it is equally contributing to the same problem.

According to Wambugu Ngunjiri, before Gachagua’s DCP was set up, the older parties he is accusing of causing disunity in Mt Kenya were the ones holding the votes that Gachagua keeps boasting of, arguing that it’s his party that has caused a split in the votes.

“This new party keeps accusing other, much older parties of wanting to divide Mt Kenya votes. They don’t see themselves as the ones dividing our votes since they came up just 6 months ago? And where do they think the ‘united’ votes were before they came?” Wambugu stated.

His remarks come at a time when Rigathi Gachagua has been urging his community not to embrace any other party apart from DCP. According to him, the other parties are merely clones of UDA, which he claims betrayed the mountain and is responsible for its current political situation.

Gachagua further argued that since the region shifted from supporting President Ruto despite voting for him overwhelmingly in 2022, Ruto has resorted to desperate measures by sponsoring splinter parties to confuse the mountain and secure re-election.

Warning against Moses Kuria’s candidate

He particularly pointed at Moses Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi, which has fielded a candidate in the Mbeere North by-election, saying it is one of the very parties he has been warning the region against.

He went further to warn Mbeere locals against voting for Moses Kuria’s candidate, saying that it’s a broader plan to split votes belonging to the United Opposition.

“Ruto has got several wheelbarrows in the mountain so as to divide the votes,” Gachagua said.

“I said that Kiunjuri is a wheelbarrow; I also said Kabogo is a wheelbarrow. He has a lot of wheelbarrows that he is moving around. He has two in Murang’a, one in Kiambu, one in Kirinyaga, and even this one for Kuria.” Gachagua stated.
