Wamalwa: We support Oburu’s push for implementation of NADCO report

By , December 6, 2025

DAP–Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa has supported Oburu Oginga’s call for full implementation of the NADCO report, saying justice for victims of past protests must not be ignored. He spoke on Saturday, December 6, 2025, during the burial of Beryl Odinga in Bondo.

Wamalwa attended the funeral together with Wiper leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka. He said they were present on behalf of the United Opposition of Kenya to stand with the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family. Before beginning his remarks, he conveyed condolences from DAP–Kenya to Oburu.

“Kwa niaba ya chama cha DAP Kenya, DAP tumekuwa partners wa ODM tukiwa kwenye Azimio. Tunaleta pia rambirambi kwa party leader wa ODM, my big brother Oburu Odinga. Tunasema pole, na tumekuja na rafiki mkubwa sana wa Raila Odinga, Mheshimiwa Daktari Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka. We are here on behalf of the United Opposition of Kenya to stand with the Jaramogi family, na kusema poleni sana kwa msiba huu,” he said.

Wamalwa also addressed Oburu directly, noting the weight of leading the ODM party.

“Vile vile, we wish you well, our big brother Oburu, leading the biggest party in Kenya, ODM. There is a lot of responsibility on your shoulders. Sisi ujue ya kwamba kule ambako tuko as United Opposition, we are friends of ODM. We are friends of Baba,” he said.

He urged Oburu to maintain old alliances even as the party navigates new political realities.

“Ujue ya kwamba kule uko na marafiki wapya, Waswahili usema, ‘Usiache mbachao kwa msala upitao.’ Know that if anything happens and you want to look back at where your friends are, you can count on Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, you can count on Wamalwa,” he said.

Calls for victims’ justice

Turning to the NADCO report, Wamalwa reminded mourners that three members of the dialogue team were present at the burial.

“We heard you speak about the NADCO Report. Three of us are here who are members of NADCO – Opiyo Wandayi, Kalonzo Musyoka, and I. Kuna yale tulitaka kwa NADCO ambayo hayakukamilika. Cost of living – some of us did not sign the report. Lakini kuna yale Baba alipigania sana, haswa haki, justice for the victims,” he said.

He highlighted two groups: Azimio protesters killed during the 2023 demonstrations, and Gen Z youths who died in the 2024 Finance Bill protests.

“Vijana wetu wa Azimio waliouawa kwa maandamano ya 2023. Vijana wetu Gen Z waliouawa kwa maandamano ya 2024 Finance Bill. Over 200 youth, many of them from Nyanza, lost their lives. Tunakuunga mkono, Mheshimiwa Oburu, ukisema ya kwamba the NADCO report, na haswa justice for the victims, iweze kutendeka,” he said.

Wamalwa’s remarks came as UDA leaders reaffirmed their commitment to honouring the agreements Raila Odinga made with President William Ruto. UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar recently said the ruling party would implement the NADCO recommendations word for word as a way of respecting Raila’s legacy.

At the same time, ODM Senator Godfrey Osotsi has warned that ODM may withdraw support for UDA if the 10-point agenda stalls. In the Senate on Tuesday, Osotsi criticised what he called slow progress in implementation.

He rejected claims that half of the agenda is already complete, saying the plan should not be treated as a public relations exercise. He gave the government until March 2026 to show real progress.
