Wamalwa takes over as DAP-K party leader
Eugine Wamalwa has been unveiled as the new Party Leader of the Democratic Action Party – Kenya (DAP-K).
Wamalwa takes over from Wafula Wamunyinyi who has been at the helm of the party since December 4, 2021.
“The re-organization and re-positioning of DAP-K take effect immediately and the same has been communicated to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties,” the party said.
In the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday, February 15, the party leadership maintained DAP-K is still part of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition.
“The party remains a part of Azimio One Kenya political party as resolved by the formative NDC on 14/12/2021and will work with all like-minded parties in the said coalition in pursuit of a better multiparty environment in Kenya,” DAP-K NEC leadership said in a statement.
Wamalwa served as Defence Cabinet Secretary during Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term.
Other party positions filled
Luanda Member of Parliament (MP) Dick Maungu has been named the party’s new Organising Secretary, and Wamunyinyi (Deputy Party Leader).
Bernard Masanja who has been the party’s 1st deputy party leader has taken over the post and functions of Deputy Secretary General while Eseli Simiyu has retained his position as the party’s Secretary General.
“@wamunyinyi has spearheaded DAP-K to become the 4th biggest party in Kenya with elected leaders across the country. A true Leopard doesn’t change its spots,” the party wrote on Twitter.
Speaking during the meeting in Nairobi, Siaya Governor James Orengo hit out at President William Ruto for wooing members of opposition parties.
“We have been around for years to tell the signs of a dictator and the happenings in Kenya clearly tell of an individual hellbent to kill democracy.
“DAP-K is going to sit on the table with other like-minded parties and be part of designing the Menu for the future of Kenya’s political space,” Orengo said.
