Wamalwa roots for youth empowerment through AI training
By Emmanuel Rono, May 24, 2026Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has called for a shift from what he termed as power politics to politics of empowerment, urging leaders to invest in young people through technology and skills training.
Speaking during a youth empowerment forum on Saturday, May 23, 2026, Wamalwa said Kenya’s future lies in equipping the youth with modern digital skills, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to prepare them for emerging opportunities in the global economy.

“The youth empowerment through practical skills; when young people are properly equipped, they become the drivers of a true paradigm shift in leadership, innovation, and national transformation across all sectors of society,” Wamalwa said.
New leadership approach
According to Wamalwa, the United Alternative Government is committed to championing a new leadership approach focused on empowering citizens rather than concentrating on power contests.
“Isikuwe tu tunatafuta mambo ya Power. We want to see young people who bring a paradigm shift in our leadership from power politics to politics of empowerment,”

“That’s the kind of leadership here today. The elders wanatafuta power, and the youth want empowerment,” Wamalwa said.
Wamalwa on supporting youthful Sifuna ahead of 2027 polls
The push for youth empowerment comes following remarks by Wamalwa, who has openly stated that he is ready to throw his support behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna should his prospects of becoming president be high.
While speaking during an interview on Herman Manyora’s podcast aired on Friday, May 16, 2026, Wamalwa, when asked by the host whether he is ready to shelve his presidential ambitions in support of his kinsman Edwin Sifuna, responded by saying, “Why not?”

The former defence minister further stated that both the united opposition and the Linda Mwananchi camp are behind the “Wantam” banner and will not hesitate to work together in their bid to unseat the current regime, which they all disagree with.
He added that at one point, the two camps will sit down and agree on a single candidate to face President William Ruto.
“We are ready to sacrifice; we are ready to bear any burden to make sure wantam becomes a reality.”
His fellow principals within the United Opposition, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, have also recently made similar remarks.
