Wajackoyah distances himself from ‘Tutam’, ‘One Term’ camps, confirms 2027 presidential bid
By Emmanuel Rono, March 17, 2026Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah has confirmed a solo path for the 2027 general elections, distancing his party from emerging political alliances and the United Opposition front.
Speaking during an interview with a local station on Monday, March 16, 2026, the former presidential contender emphasised that the Roots Party remains an independent entity, focused solely on its relationship with the electorate rather than boardroom coalitions.
“I’m working with the Roots Party, and Roots Party is working with the people of Kenya. Roots Party is registered under the political parties as Roots Party and is working for the nation, for the people of this Republic,” Wajackoyah stated.
Wajackoyah further said that his party’s legal status as a registered group under the Political Parties Act means that it can’t be merged with other groups unless there is a strategic, party-led mandate.
Eye on the Top Seat
Wajackoyah said that his main goal is still to become president, even though there are a lot of candidates. He confirmed that his message still resonated with people who were unhappy with the usual political divide.
“I’m in the same side of Kenyan voters… because that’s what I’m looking for, that I become the next president of this country,” Wajackoyah said.
Legalizing Marijuana
He also said his manifesto of legalising marijuana is still on his key agenda if elected president.
“I cannot say what the game plan is unless the National Executive Committee allows me to speak through our party spokesperson. Other than that, let’s wait and see what will come out,” Wajackoyah stated.
“I will run for presidency in 2027, and my first order of business will be legalising marijuana. It will take us 40 years to recover from the mess Uhuru and Ruto have put us in, but with hemp, I will recover the economy.”
