Ex-Water PS Wairagu nominates running mate for Murang’a governor race

Former Water Permanent Secretary Joseph Wairagu who is eyeing the Murang’a gubernatorial seat has picked Evanson Muiyuro as his running mate.

Muiyuro has been serving as the chairman of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) in Gatanga and is also a renowned businessman.

Contrary to the expectations of many residents that he would pick a woman to be his deputy, the former PS said he was looking for a competent person who would help him deliver quality services to the people.

Wairagu, however, said he will consider having more women in his cabinet in a bid to strike a balance in the leadership of the county.

“I have not sidelined women by picking a male running mate. I want to assure them that there are enough slots which they shall take in the executive,” he said.

Wairagu said being a long-time public servant, he has the experience to run the county better than his opponents.

Wairagu exudes confidence in winning

The aspirant, who is vying on the Democratic Party ticket, exuded confidence in winning the seat in the August poll.

“I delivered so many projects to the people of Murang’a while I was in the water docket and I will do more when elected as the governor,” he remarked.

“I have a well-drawn plan on how to transform this county in the agriculture education, infrastructure, and health sectors in 100 days after taking the office,” he added.

Giving his acceptance remarks, Muiyuro said he is ready to work with Wairagu to help him steer the county to greater heights.

“We shall work together and help deliver to the people of Murang’a and I pledge to be a submissive deputy to you,” he said.

“Our goal is to ensure we empower the residents economically and improve their livelihoods and this is outlined in our manifesto,” Muiyuro added.
