Wahome Thuku now says Ndindi Nyoro already has a preferred presidential candidate

Political affairs commentator and lawyer Wahome Thuku now says Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro already has a preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.

Thuku shared the remarks on his Facebook page on Saturday, June 27, 2026, hours after Nyoro held a press briefing in which he apologised to Kenyans for missing the National Assembly vote on the Finance Bill 2026 and addressed growing speculation about his political future.

In his message, Thuku indicated that he remained supportive of Ndindi Nyoro, but argued that the MP already knows who he would back if a presidential election were held today.

Wahome Thuku’s remarks

Addressing Nyoro directly, Thuku wrote:

“I AM still on you, ndugu Ndindi Nyoro. I know 100 if an election is called tomorrow morning, you would not even think twice about who to vote for as president.

“You have a candidate at your fingertips, or should I say in your heart. Even if the ballot paper had 63 candidates, you would not miss yours.”

He went on to argue that, in his view, no voter remains genuinely undecided once they enter a polling station.

“There may be SITTING ON THE FENCE in press conferences, in Parliament, in political rallies, on radio and TV stations and even on social media, but there is never any FENCE inside a polling station. Everyone votes one way or the other.”

Thuku added:

“I always hear of ‘undecided’ voters, yet on voting day, you see those ‘undecided’ walking to polling stations.

“No, they are not undecided; they are just quiet about their choices. They do not go to polling stations to greet clerks; they go to vote.”

He concluded by encouraging Nyoro to publicly declare his preferred candidate.

“Bw Nyoro, we just want to hear your choice so as to be sad or happy about it. We are all hoping you will tell us what we want to hear.”

Nyoro on his political position

Thuku’s remarks came shortly after Nyoro sought to clarify his political standing during a press briefing at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Responding to questions about whether he was still aligned with President William Ruto’s administration, Nyoro stated that he no longer supports the government.

“There is no way I can say the things I have been saying if I were still in government.

“To put it very plainly, especially on matters concerning the economy and how it is being managed, you cannot make those arguments while supporting the government.

We no longer support the government of the day and the way it is running the economy,” Nyoro said.

The Kiharu legislator further stated that Kenya’s politics had effectively narrowed into two broad sides.

“There are only two sides in Kenya today – the government and the opposition. I have made it clear which side I am not on – and you know for sure that I am not in government.

“As I have told you before, I left the government. It is obvious that I left the government. I keep answering this question not because Kenyans are asking it, but because politicians keep provoking me to defend my position,” he said.

Preferred candidate

Despite declaring that he is no longer part of the government and distancing himself from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) administration, Nyoro did not identify the presidential candidate or political coalition he intends to support in the 2027 General Election.

Instead, he asked Kenyans to give him three to four weeks before he outlines his next political move.

“I request Kenyans to give me three to four weeks to share my views. This decision is not about my political convenience; it is about what Kenya can become,” Nyoro said.

By the time of publication, Nyoro had not publicly endorsed any presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Consequently, Thuku’s assertion that the MP already has a preferred candidate remains his personal political opinion rather than a fact confirmed by Nyoro himself.
