Former Murang’a governor Mwangi Wa Iria has vowed to fight for his ‘rightful’ position in Mt Kenya politics, claiming there are deliberate efforts to edge him out.
Addressing the press in Murang’a, Wa Iria said he wants to become the regional kingpin and defend the rights of the people claiming that the leaders in the area have already developed cold feet.
“I am out to revive the political glory of the region because our identity as the community is crashing and soon we might not be heard,” he said.
The former governor said the report implicating his wife in a graft case is just a ploy to distract him from the course.
He said this is aimed at tainting his image in public and watering down the work he has done as the county’s head in the past 10 years.
“I saw reports circulating in all media platforms that my wife has been implicated in graft and I feel I am the one being targeted,” Wa Iria said.
“They should leave my wife out of this dirty game, if they want they can take the parcel of land which they claim she bought with graft money,” he added.
He also claimed there was a plot to cut to size any potential leader from the region to ensure they have no voice even when things go wrong.
Further, he said the leaders in the area folded up their parties which was a big mistake.
“Few leaders here who had their own parties folded them up and now they don’t have a platform to speak out on matters in the region,” Wa Iria added.
In an indirect attack on the deputy president Rigathi Gachagua who has expressed his interest to unite all the leaders in the region, Wa Iria said he will not be a party to that instead he will go his own way.
He said he will make a comeback in politics using his Usawa Kwa Wote party to launch a revolution in the region to address the issues affecting the residents.
“We shall have a huge movement in the area starting January next year, and we will be addressing the interests of the region,” he added.
Wa Iria said no amount of intimidation will make him give in adding that he is ready to face off with anyone fighting him.
Further, he claimed there were leaders who have been bad-mouthing him against president William Ruto so as to create a conflict between them.
“I know these people but I won’t mention their names now they should brace themselves for the fight,” he remarked.
“I would urge the president not to interfere with the Mt.Kenya politics he should let us handle our issues” Wa Iria added.
