Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi explains why he will skip Ruto’s development tour in Western

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has revealed that he will skip President William Ruto’s development tour in Vihiga County on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

In a statement on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Osotsi, who is the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) deputy party leader, said that he is outside the country on a foreign developmental tour.

“I am currently on a foreign developmental tour in Europe. While here, I have been informed that H.E. President Dr. William Ruto will be visiting Vihiga County on Wednesday, 22nd January 2025,” Osotsi stated.

“The purpose of this visit, I am informed is for the launch of the construction of Luanda modern Market. Regretably, I will not be attending this event for the reason stated. However, I want to urge our people to accord the President a warm reception to our great County.”

Ruto is scheduled to tour the Luanda Market in Vihiga County to assess the progress made in the construction of the facility.

“The market project is highly welcomed considering that Luanda is a key market in western region that serves Vihiga, Kakamega, Kisumu, Siaya, Busia Counties and a key gateway of trade between Kenya and Uganda,” Osotsi added.

“It suffices to note that development of markets is a devolved function. It is instructive to note this project is the culmination of concerted efforts by the County Government of Vihiga through an official request made to the national government on 2nd May 2024. I hope the two levels of government will ensure the construction of the said market takes into account the emerging concerns to ensure humane treatment of all affected traders; proper relocation plan; minimal losses and disruption of traders’ businesses; speedy completion of the project; fairness in allocation of new stalls among other concerns.”

Osotsi has also asked Ruto to help in fast-tracking the programmes/projects he launched during his previous visit to Vihiga county.

Among the projects include the construction of Mago-Mululu-Lusui-Vokoli road, the provision of Ksh100 million to Ebunangwe KTTC, the provision of Ksh50 million to Emuhaya Hospital, provision of Ksh50 million to Hamisi Hospital, Kenya-Belgium Water Supply project Last Mile Connectivity component, granite factory at Ebuyangu, County Aggregation and Industrial Park at Mwibona in Luanda, Sub-County, Kenya School of Government in South Maragoli and the tarmacking of Gisambai-Hamisi-Shamakhokho Road.

“The people of Vihiga are expecting to hear from the President on the status of these stalled programmes/projects and their completion plan,” Osotsi added.
