Ukambani leaders warn over protests
Eight MPs from Ukambani region allied to Kenya Kwanza coalition have told their community not to take part in the demonstrations called by Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
Addressing a news conference yesterday, the leaders claimed that as a community which has forever embraced peace in times of apparent disagreements, they are the targeted and thus asked their people to treat the calls for the protests as an act of detachment to benefit from the government of the day.

Led by Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka Kawaya (pictured), they said that they have information that people who do not reside within the region have been hired and ferried to paint a false narrative of disharmony and cause unwarranted destruction.
They argued that the demonstrations are not owned and/or associated with the people of Ukambani region but rather an organised crime aspect which is targeting their people for ulterior motive which include but not limited to killing, maiming, malicious destruction of property and other ill intentions.
Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has vowed to protect city residents against demonstrations.
The governor noted that the cycle of demonstrations witnessed in Kenya after every five years should come to an end.
“We cannot have a cycle in this country that every five years, we burn our country. It is easy to destroy than build,” said Sakaja.
“I want to tell those planning the demonstrations on Wednesday, you will not succeed this time. You will not succeed because we are going to get a breakthrough for this country,” he added.
His statement comes after Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja coalition said the anti-government demonstrations will go on for three days this week.
