Murang’a Woman Rep blasts CS Wahome for not supporting UDA candidate in Kandara mini-polls
Murang’a woman representative Betty Maina has launched scathing attacks on water Cabinet Secretary (CS) Alice Wahome for not supporting a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate in the Kandara constituency by-election.
Maina said Wahome has been supporting a Ford Asili party candidate instead of teaming up with the other UDA leaders to campaign for their candidate.
Maina who had accompanied Chege Njuguna to collect his certificate at Ng’araria secondary school after being declared the winner in the by-election said Wahome was trying to settle political scores with Njuguna due to their rivalry which has been on for quite some time.
Njuguna was in the race to secure the Kandara parliamentary seat in the August poll under the Chama Cha Kazi party where he came in second after Wahome.
When the seat was declared vacant after the appointment of Wahome to the cabinet, Njuguna joined UDA where he trounced 13 other contestants and emerged the winner.
During this period, Wahome had her preferred candidate Injinia Mwaura who she openly campaigned for but he came in third.
“We know Wahome been supporting another candidate despite having been elected on a UDA party ticket before she was appointed to the cabinet,” Maina said.
“We should have teamed up together but instead she opted to go behind our backs to support a different candidate,” she remarked.
The legislator said during the UDA party primaries, Wahome had her favourite candidate who she was pushing he takes the ticket.
“When her candidate failed to secure the ticket, she went for the one who came in second and sponsored him,” Maina added.
She told Wahome to stick to her role as the cabinet secretary now that she is a civil servant.
“This is her time to serve the country and should not be involved in politics in any way. She should leave us the politicians to play the games at the grassroots and she should be ready to face us,” she remarked.
Her sentiments were echoed by Maragua Mp Mary Waithira who said Wahome ought to have supported the UDA candidate instead of going for someone in a different party.
“We need to retain our unity as leaders in the area because we are all under one party and our goal is to serve the people,” she said.
