UDA issues fresh update on upcoming county elections

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has issued a notice on the upcoming County elections.

The ruling party in a statement issued on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, notified all the elected constituency delegates in the phase one of the grassroots elections that the National Elections Board (NEB) will soon issue notice of the date and venue of the scheduled county elections across the respective counties.

"All elected Constituency Delegates in the phase one of the grassroots elections are notified that the National Elections Board (NEB) will soon issue notice of the date and venue of the scheduled County Elections across the respective Counties," the notice reads in part.

UDA on election disputes

UDA further issued an update on the status of the disputes concerning the just concluded constituency elections, saying that they will be dispensed with by the Electoral and Disputes Resolution Committee.

"In the meantime, disputes concerning the just constituency elections will be dispensed with by the Electoral and Disputes Resolution Committee," UDA's NEB chairperson Anthony Mwaura said in the statement.

UDA held its constituency elections on May 31, 2024, with some election centers witnessing violence that led to disputes.

The President William Ruto-led party issued a notice on June 1, 2024, advising aggrieved members in the elections to file their complains via email, by June 3, 2024.

"We wish to notify our members that the Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee will be receiving complaints concerning the just concluded constituency election within the next 48 hours.

"Members aggrieved by the conduct or outcome of of the elections are advised to file their complaints via email by June 3, 2024 at 6 PM and pay the requisite fees via M-PESA details of which are provided in our official website," UDA Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee chairperson Joy Mdivo said in the statement.

Nairobi County UDA chairmanship is one of the hotly contested seats in the upcoming ruling party's county elections, pitting Governor Johnson Sakaja and Embakasi North MP James Gakuya.

Sakaja has been on vote-hunting spree and on June 3, 2024, he met the UDA elected constituency delegates from Roysambu, Kasarani, Mathare, Ruaraka, Westlands, and Langata constituencies.

Sakaja said that he he met them to just pass his congratulatory message.

"Met elected constituency delegates from Roysambu, Kasarani, Mathare, Ruaraka, Westlands, and Langata constituencies yesterday to congratulate them on their victory last Friday and plan the way forward together," Sakaja posted.
