The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party has rallied all 12 aspirants eyeing the Baringo Senate seat to embrace unity and agree on a transparent process of identifying the party’s flagbearer.

The call came during a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who also serves as the party’s deputy leader.

Kindiki emphasised that UDA’s strength lies in its democratic traditions and assured the aspirants that the party would guarantee free, fair and credible nominations.

“The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party has rallied all the 12 aspirants eyeing the Baringo Senate seat to embrace unity and agree on a transparent process of identifying the party’s flagbearer,” read the X post by UDA on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

“The options on the table are party primaries or consensus at the discretion of the aspirants themselves,” Kindiki said after the closed-door talks.

“We will uphold whichever path they choose, ensuring fairness and credibility.”

Aspirants’ pledge

The meeting, which brought together all the contenders under one roof, ended on a note of solidarity as the aspirants pledged to support the eventual flagbearer. They also committed to peaceful and issue-based campaigns, a move Kindiki lauded as a show of political maturity.

“In a show of solidarity, all the aspirants pledged to stand with the eventual flagbearer and sustain peaceful, issue-based campaigns,” the Deputy President noted.

The unity drive is viewed as a strategic effort by the ruling party to secure the Baringo Senate seat, which fell vacant following the appointment of former Senator William Cheptumo’s widow, Hanna Wendot, to the Cabinet.

UDA has reason to guard its dominance in the region, having posted an emphatic victory in Baringo during the 2022 general election. Party leaders say the latest push for unity is meant to safeguard that stronghold.

As the Baringo aspirants head into a defining phase, the party leadership remains confident that their commitment to transparency and unity will deliver a smooth nomination process and a decisive win in the upcoming by-election.
