A section of youths in Trans Nzoia County have cut links with Deputy President William Ruto whom they have known as their political uncle from the time he assumed office as the country’s second most powerful office holder in 2013.

Led by Sharon Masibo a youth leader in Saboti constituency, they said Ruto’s attack on the personality of Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa amounts to disrespect to youths of Kenya and upcoming leaders who look up to Wamalwa for inspiration.

“Eugene is our political father in Trans Nzoia County, what you did is an insult to the youths of this county and the country at large. We normally call you our uncle but from today, we don’t recognize you as a national leader,” Sharon said.

Sharon called on Ruto to apologize to the CS and his mother if he wants to maintain the status of a national leader.

“We are asking you to look for Eugene, our political icon and apologize to him in presence of his mother,” she appealed.

John Walubengo, who defected from the Hustlers’ Nation to Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition party, said Ruto’s sentiments were meant to degrade the personality and the rising star of Eugene Wamalwa.

“We know you feel threatened by Eugene who is likely to be the sixth President of Kenya. We are telling you attacking him will not change the fact that he will one day occupy the State House before you,” Walubengo said.

The vocal Trans Nzoia youths are praying that Ruto loses in the August polls arguing he is not fit to hold the highest office in the country.

“We know our God is listening. We are really praying that he listens and answers our prayer so that Ruto can learn a life lesson that he should respect other leaders,” he added.

William Ruto and Azimio flag bearer Raila Odinga are scrambling for over 395,000 registered voters in the cosmopolitan county.
