Kiambu county gubernatorial aspirant Patrick Wainaina says he will not give handouts to voters for him to get elected.

Wainaina said that for far too long, voters have been hoodwinked by politicians using bribes to clinch political positions only to later fail in their delivery on their mandates.

“I will not go giving handouts of Ksh100, Ksh200 or buying cheap alcohol to youths for them to give me power to lead them. I will approach my campaigns differently,” he said.

Wainaina who is battling it out with incumbent governor James Nyoro, impeached and former governor Ferdinand Waititu, Senator Kimani Wamatangi and former Kiambu governor William Kabogo said he will instead endeavour to empower Kiambu voters who have formed cluster groups and who have a vision to better their livelihoods in a team.

He said instead of criss-crossing the county doing political rallies, he will create value in persons who have formed groups by helping them achieve their goals.

The groups, he said, will in turn campaign for him in their villages, thereby helping him outsmart his competitors with ease.

So far, the hopeful governor said he has managed to bring together over 3,000 groups comprising over 30 people each, which he has been educating and training on financial literacy and saving culture.

“I am determined to see all these people in the groups achieve their goals in life by walking the journey with them. It’s such people who will spread the message out there having created value in their lives,” he said.

Wainaina spoke this morning in one of the local television stations, a day after meeting over 200 youthful women who he has trained on economic and financial growth.
