‘They want to impeach me over my stance’ -Natembeya

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has claimed that a section of political leaders from the western Kenya, in collusion with county ward representatives plan to impeach him for telling the truth to President William Ruto on the ongoing abduction of youths in the country.
He, however, says that he is not worried over the scheme and told his detractors to go ahead. Natembeya asked his critics to respect the freedom of speech as enshrined in the Constitution and called to an end to the culture of intolerance being witnessed in the country.
“This issue of threatening other leaders for speaking the truth should stop or else our country is heading in the wrong direction “he warned.
What he told Ruto and other leaders, he insisted, was pure truth and that they should not use it to start threatening him with impeachment.
On Saturday during the burial of Ann Nanyama, the mother of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Natembeya told Ruto that the government was aware of the youth abductions. The governor told off government functionaries claiming that the youths could be abducting themselves.
He asked the government to take charge and stop blame-games by ending the extra judicial killings in the country.
“Let us protect our young generations and stop abducting them because of criticising the government,” said Natembeya.
The Governor’s sentiments irked National Assembly Leader of Majority Kimani Ichungw’ah who asked him to report to DCI those who were behind the abductions. Ichungw’ah claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachugua together with Natembeya were behind the abductions and now want to blame Ruto.
“When you were the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner you carried out abductions in Kerio Valley and also you chased away people in Mau forest so stop lecturing us on abductions,” roared Ichung’wah.
Wetang’ula was also not happy with Natembeya for publicly declaring that he has been assisting their family with money. The Speaker told Natembeya that he was lying as he (Wetang’ula) and his brother, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, were capable of maintaining their father.
Minority party
Wetang’ula, who is also the Ford Kenya boss, promised to teach the governor a political lesson for failing to respect their family and other elected leaders.
“Respect elected leaders or soon we shall remove the plate you are eating from,” Wetang’ula promised.
Natambeya’s party, DAP-K, has only four elected MCAs out of 25 with UDA carrying the majority seats in the county assembly.
Natembeya also asked Ichung’wah to stop associating him with former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
“The only time I met Gachagua is when he came for a funeral here and he was the sitting Deputy President. I never talk to him,” said Natembeya.
Ichung’wah had claimed that Natembeya and Gachagua were the ones abducting the young boys in the country.
Natembeya asked Ruto to stop listening to lies being propagated by his close allies, adding that those close to the president are the ones misleading him with a lot of lies.
“When you say I carried out extra-judicial killings in Kerio valley and dumped the bodies at River Yala and that time the current president was the Deputy President, what do you mean?” posed Natembeya
He said those close to Ruto were the ones making him unpopular.
