Tharaka Nithi elders call for truce between DP Gachagua and CS Kindiki
By Achieng' Mary, September 22, 2024A section of leaders in Tharaka Nithi County have called for a political truce between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki, following recent wrangles over Mt Kenya politics.
Addressing the press from Vikibuka shrine, the elders noted that the two leaders should come together and make amends where necessary and shun divisive politics for the prosperity of the nation.
“Ata kama ni madaraka, ata kama ni kiongozi wa Kenya, ambaye anajua ako na shida either na viongozi wengine au wananchi wa Kenya….kama kuna mtu alikua amekosea mahali yoyote aombe msamaha, tunaomba hio siasa ya vurugu na vita iishe,” Simon Mitambo said on behalf of the elders.
“Kama ni kiongozi flani amepewa nafasi, ngoja apewe nafasi yake atulinde vizuri, atuangalie vizuri, mda wake ukiisha atachaguliwa mwengine na sisi kama wananchi tunakua pale tunamsaidia,” another elder identified as Augustine Mwaniki added.

The latest comes days after some 500 elders drawn from Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi Counties endorsed Kindiki as the suitable link between Mount Kenya and President William Ruto.
Speaking at a press conference in Embu, the leaders expressed concern over the political discourse and urged all leaders to put an end to divisive politics.
“These tensions distract us from the more important issues, such as completing development projects, improving the economic well-being of our farmers, and creating opportunities for our youth. We ask all political leaders to focus on unity and development instead of divisive rhetoric,” Cyrus Ngeranwa, an elder said.
“To ensure we remain focused on development, we endorse Prof. Kithure Kindiki, to be the link between our region, the President and his government. We believe his national stature will help foster good relations with other regions,” he added on behalf of the elders.
