Tension at Ufungamano House as police storm, disrupt Sifuna’s speech
By Cynthia Lodite, March 27, 2026A heavy police presence and rising political tension have been witnessed at the Linda Mwananchi meeting, briefly disrupting the Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna’s speech.
Following a live meeting on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Ufungamano House, shortly after Sifuna took to the centre stage to make his address, the police officers stormed Ufungamano House.
At the time, the embattled Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General swiftly moved to beg the officers to allow the members to proceed with the meeting uninterrupted.
“Hatuna shida na Polisi kama OCS anataka kutuongelesha akuje mbele tutampea nafasi,” Sifuna stated.
On the other hand, Sifuna went to criticise the heavy police presence deployed at the Ufungamano House despite getting clearance from the National Police Service to hold the Linda Mwananchi meeting.
“Tulipeana ilani kwamba tutakuwa na mkutano hapa, lakini jambo la kusikitisha ni kwamba malori ya polisi yamejaa hapa nje,” Sifuna added.

Police block entry
Meanwhile, before the meeting, the officers had barricaded access to the venue booked for the parallel meeting by the faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) led by Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna.
The meeting has been convened by a group of ODM members led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, James Orengo, Homa Bay Deputy Governor Geoffrey Osotsi and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, among others.
Police maintained a heavy presence in the area throughout the morning, dispersing small gatherings and directing organisers to postpone the meeting.
At the time, Osotsi insisted that the meeting would proceed, saying, “We, the People, shall gather for the people’s NDC at Ufungamano House, Mamlaka Road.”
Thereafter, tension briefly rose in the area as police moved to break up groups attempting to assemble, with some organisers accusing security officers of interfering in internal party affairs.
