SUPKEM condemns goon attack on All Saints Cathedral
By Aloys Michael, June 15, 2026Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) has condemned the recent disruption of a post-budget review meeting at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, describing the incident as an unacceptable display of political intolerance and calling for immediate action against those responsible.
In a statement on Monday, June 15, 2026, SUPKEM expressed deep sadness and outrage over the attack, which occurred during a public forum convened to discuss the implications of the 2026/27 national budget on ordinary Kenyans.
The meeting had attracted a broad cross-section of participants, including civil society leaders, religious figures, lawyers and members of the public. Reports indicate that a group of individuals stormed the venue and disrupted the proceedings, forcing police to intervene.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers responded swiftly after receiving reports of the disturbance.
“Upon receiving reports of the disturbance, police officers responded promptly to the scene. They successfully repulsed the group, restored order, and secured the area. Two suspects were apprehended and are currently in police custody,” the NPS said in a statement.

Police have since launched investigations into the incident and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify and arrest additional persons of interest linked to the attack.
The service has also appealed to members of the public to provide any information that may assist investigators through police stations and other designated reporting channels.
In its statement, SUPKEM said it was particularly concerned by the manner in which the attackers carried out the assault.
“What is most troubling is the boldness with which assailants stormed the meeting room, intent on inflicting serious harm on participants,” the organisation stated.
The Muslim umbrella body further noted that the attack extended beyond the meeting itself and targeted a place of worship, raising concerns about respect for religious institutions and democratic freedoms.
“SUPKEM unequivocally condemns this attack and calls for immediate and decisive action against the perpetrators and their sponsors,” the statement said.

The council emphasised that modern surveillance technology should aid investigators in identifying those responsible.
“Thanks to modern technology, CCTV footage of the incident provides substantial evidence for police investigators to pursue those responsible and hold them accountable.”
SUPKEM also warned against growing political intolerance ahead of the 2027 General Election, drawing parallels with periods of heightened political tension in Kenya’s history.
“With such audacious acts occurring just before the high-stakes 2027 general elections, we find ourselves in a situation reminiscent of the lead-up to the 2007 elections,” the council said.
The organisation cautioned that failure to act decisively could embolden similar attacks on other institutions and undermine national cohesion.
The council further called for transparent investigations and enforcement of the law against all those involved.
“We demand transparent yet decisive police action to ensure that these attackers, along with others across the country, face the full extent of the law,” it said.
