Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has toned down his past remarks on adding votes for President William Ruto if he fails to meet the threshold required for another term in office.

Speaking on Friday, June 20, 2025, at his backyard in Eldoret, the legislator stated they are in the business of soliciting votes, expressing optimism of trouncing the opposition.

The president’s ally, who openly stated that Ruto will not go down as a one-term president, further warned the opposition to brace for a resounding defeat in the coming polls.

Hii kazi tunafanya ni ya kuomba kura. Ndio tunaendelaea kuomba kura.

Kura lazima ijae, isipojaa tunajaza na watu. Si nyinyi mtajaza Kura ama kazi yenu ni nini?” He asked the resident.

Translating to: “We will traverse this country, go to Ukambani and other places, searching for the votes. If it does not add up, we continue soliciting for more until it adds up.”

“We are in the business of campaigning, and we will add it up with votes, which we are soliciting from the people.”

“The people should not be worried. The votes will suffice; if they don’t, we will add up through the people. These people will top it up, or what is your work?”.

The MP also challenged the opposition to desist from premature politicking and instead engage in important development work to stand a chance in the impending polls.

He also castigated them for the sustained attack on Ruto, saying that no amount of name-calling by the opposition will deter the incumbent regime.

“They should not be worried. Let them engage in something meaningful for the people, perhaps even build a classroom or a toilet,” he jibed.

Sudi’s comments come five days after President Ruto warned of not handing over power to people with no plans.

Speaking on Sunday, June 15, 2025, the head of state vowed not to hand over power to the opposition, claiming they have no plan for the country’s progress beyond promoting tribalism.

No Plan

These other people have no plan, and we cannot hand over leadership to people without a plan, whose only agenda is ‘Ruto must go, Ruto must go.’ How will that help you? You don’t know how our youth will get jobs, you don’t know how agriculture will progress, you don’t know how children will get an education. You have no plan to do anything,”

He went further, accusing the opposition of fueling tribalism and bitterness.

“Ata ukiwaangalia wakiongea, wanaongea na kisirani mingi sana. Sijui nani aliwakosea.”
