Sudi: Orengo has the heart and spirit of leading people into poverty
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, April 20, 2026Member of Parliament for Kapseret Constituency Oscar Sudi has gone on the offensive against Siaya Governor James Orengo, claiming that he has been promoting what he describes as the politics of poverty as opposed to leadership based on development.
In a statement on his X handle on Monday, April 20, 2026, Sudi condemned Orengo, saying that for many years, he has been in political leadership in Kenya, but his legacy has no concrete gains that have benefited the livelihoods of the common people.
“Ever since I was born, I’ve been seeing Orengo in politics, but his politics are the politics of poverty. He’s not a reformist, and he has no development track record. Orengo has the heart and spirit of leading people into poverty,” Sudi said.

The vocal lawmaker also discounted Orengo as a reformist, claiming that after decades of leadership, he has yet to show any clear track record of development. Sudi says that great leadership must be judged on tangible improvements and empowerment of the economy rather than the rhetoric or political activism.
Sudi has further proceeded to blame the Siaya governor for purportedly inciting the protests on the streets rather than working towards nation-building. He dared Orengo to call in his own family to protest and then summon up the rest.
“Instead of misleading Gen Z to go back to the streets, he should start with his own children,” he added.
Orengo calls for protests in June
The statement by Sudi is made amidst increased calls for protests by the anti-government factions, including the Linda Mwananchi faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders, in which the Siaya Governor James Orengo announced that their movement will join the Gen Zs during their June anniversary protests.
Speaking at a Linda Mwananchi rally on Sunday, April 19, 2026, James Orengo said the Linda Mwananchi movement should take the lead beginning June 2026, suggesting a renewed phase of political mobilisation.

“I am asking you, from Nakuru, let us make this country ungovernable from June 2026. Nina hakika kwamba the next government in this country will be formed by the Linda Mwananchi,” Orengo declared.
“I want to pray with you that when God’s time has come, there will be no time for wantam or two tam; wakati wa Mungu ukifika unaenda siku hiyo. I am asking Kenyans that the hour has come and the hour is now. Kwa Kasongo, tunasema wantam,” he added.
