Snubbing Gachagua? Nyakera proposes Kamba presidency in 2027 to replace Ruto

By , August 17, 2025

Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP) Nairobi Patron Irungu Nyakera has proposed a comprehensive ethnic balancing formula for Kenya’s 2027 elections, advocating for a Kamba president and notably excluding his party leader, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, from his proposed leadership structure.

In a statement posted on his X account on Sunday, August 17, 2025, Nyakera outlined what he described as his vision for replacing President William Ruto’s administration with a more ethnically balanced government.

“My vision for a team that can take Ruto home in early 2027 is one that reflects the true face of Kenya,” Nyakera stated.

According to Nyakera, this proposal is a pathway to unprecedented national unity, arguing that ethnic balancing could heal perennial ethnic tensions.

“Such a balanced formation would bring together Kenya’s diversity and drive us toward a unity never witnessed before,” Nyakera declared.

Proposed leadership structure

Nyakera’s proposal features a detailed distribution of key national and regional leadership positions across different ethnic communities, with the Kamba community taking the top slot.

According to his formula, the presidency would go to a Kamba candidate, while the deputy presidency would be occupied by a member of the Kisii community.

“President – Kamba, Deputy President – Kisii,” Nyakera outlined.

The former Ruto ally extended his balancing act to parliamentary leadership positions, proposing GEMA and Luo communities for the Speaker roles.

“Speaker of the NA – GEMA, Speaker of the Senate – Luo,” he stated.

Nyakera’s proposal also detailed a comprehensive ethnic balancing formula for Nairobi County leadership positions, spreading representation across multiple communities.

“Nairobi Governor – GEMA, Nairobi Deputy Governor – Kamba, Nairobi Senator – Luhya, Nairobi Women Rep – Kisii,” he further outlined.

Call for spiritual guidance

Nyakera concluded his proposal with a call for spiritual intervention in Kenya’s political future, urging citizens to seek divine guidance in selecting leaders.

“Therefore, as you go to church today, I beseech you to pray for wisdom for our nation – that God may guide us as we choose leaders who will unite, not divide, and lead Kenya into a brighter future,” he stated.
