Sifuna: We have a responsibility to fight for ODM party

By , February 24, 2026

Edwin Sifuna, the Secretary-General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Nairobi Senator, has said the party’s Linda Mwananchi wing is ready to defend its position despite claims by the Linda Ground faction, led by party leader Oburu Odinga, that it commands the majority of ODM leaders.

Speaking in a morning interview on a local TV station on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Sifuna dismissed the claims by the ‘Linda Ground’ faction and said that the Sifuna-Led faction is focused on having the support of the Kenyans and not the number of leaders behind their faction.

“We have a responsibility to fight for the ODM Party, and I will not evade responsibility, since the party is a part of the people, and it is our responsibility to safeguard it,” Sifuna said.

Senator Sifuna has said that under the banner ‘Sisi ndio Sifuna’, loosely translated as  ‘We are the Sifuna’, there is a willingness to defend the ideals of the ODM party and assume responsibility for its future path.

Sifuna also thanked people for the increasing support and said that the support indicates that citizens are on their side and they trust the mission to fight for the ODM Party.

Sifuna has said that he is going to establish the level of his support at the grassroots. He has indicated that he is going to conduct a sort of census of the residents under the Sisi Ndio Sifuna movement, and that this method can enable him to know the number of Kenyans associating with his call to renewal and integration.

In his Sisi Ndio Sifuna project, Sifuna has made it known that he is not a figurehead but an action leader who is willing to take the responsibility, battle in order to achieve the party’s ideals, and he is mobilising the people who share his vision of the future of the party. His style can be attributed to political ambition and adherence to grassroots democracy, which portends that his leadership in ODM is decisive, responsible and based on popular goodwill.

“It gives great comfort to know that you are not alone. I have felt the love and support. But I pray they don’t make it about me. We are deeply flawed beings,” Sifuna added.
