Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has revealed the two Cabinet secretaries he considers his favourites in President William Ruto’s Cabinet, even as he expressed disappointment over the failure of one of them to appear before the Senate.

Speaking in the Senate on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Sifuna singled out Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Alice Wahome and Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Davis Chirchir as the only members of the Cabinet he particularly admires.

“As a House, when we do these invitations, the invitations are sent out in 14 days so that if, for instance, that invitation falls on a day when you are planning to travel or do something else, you can write immediately. The CS for Lands just unfortunately or fortunately happens to be one of my favourites in this cabinet. There are only two of them; it is she and Chirchir,” Sifuna said.

The senator made the remarks during a discussion on the absence of CS Wahome from a scheduled appearance before the Senate.

While acknowledging that Wahome is one of his preferred cabinet secretaries, Sifuna said her failure to honour the Senate’s invitation had not been received well by the House.

Despite his admiration for Wahome, the Nairobi senator indicated that the Cabinet secretary could not be excused from accountability to Parliament.

He noted that the Senate had given sufficient notice before the scheduled session and expected ministries to communicate in advance whenever there were unavoidable scheduling conflicts.

“I might cut her some slack, but I think she needs to be told that we are not very happy as a House for the reasons we have advanced for why she is not here,” he added.

Sifuna’s remarks highlighted the Senate’s insistence on accountability from Cabinet secretaries who are invited to appear before the House.

The senator maintained that while individual members may have personal respect for certain Cabinet secretaries, parliamentary oversight responsibilities must be taken seriously.

As a critic of Ruto’s administration, the comments also offered a rare glimpse into Sifuna’s assessment of its Cabinet, with Wahome and Chirchir emerging as the only two Cabinet secretaries he publicly identified as his favourites.
