Sifuna assures supporters Linda Mwananchi will remain united
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, July 25, 2026Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has assured supporters of the Linda Mwananchi movement that the coalition will remain united despite differing opinions among its leaders, insisting that internal debates are a sign of a healthy political outfit rather than division.
Speaking on Friday, July 24, 2026, during an interview with Luyha media stations ahead of Linda Mwananchi’s Western tour, Sifuna said leaders are free to express their views, including on podcasts and other public platforms, but maintained that such remarks should not be mistaken for the coalition’s official position.
“To be honest, I believe many Kenyans have placed their faith in this movement and in the leadership of Linda Mwananchi. There will be nothing that will cause this coalition to fall apart. We will sit down and talk, even when the issues are difficult, because we do not expect Linda Mwananchi to be a choir like the broad-based arrangement. That is impossible,” Sifuna said.
Everyone will be allowed to express their opinion. Still, in the end, we will sit together as leaders of Linda Mwananchi, deliberate, and agree on a way forward that satisfies Kenyans and our supporters,” he added.
The former ODM secretary general has stressed that the coalition embraces freedom of expression and that every leader has the right to air their views without fear. He noted that speculation about who should lead the coalition or hold various positions should not be interpreted as official decisions.
Sifuna dismisses lift with Babu
Sifuna also revealed that Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino remains actively engaged in consultations within the coalition. He disclosed that the two had spoken by phone earlier and regularly hold discussions as they seek to ensure they do not let down Kenyans who have placed their trust in the movement.
Sifuna’s remarks came in response to an earlier statement by Babu Owino that a new political party would soon be launched, with Babu serving as the party leader, Siaya Governor James Orengo as patron, and Sifuna as secretary general. The Nairobi Senator dismissed the assertions, saying no such plans had been agreed upon within the Linda Mwananchi leadership.
His remarks come amid growing public debate over the future direction of the Linda Mwananchi coalition and its leadership structure ahead of the 2027 general election. However, Sifuna maintained that any disagreements would be resolved through dialogue, with leaders committed to presenting a united front and making decisions collectively in the interest of their supporters and the country.
