Sifuna announces major Bungoma meeting before unveiling 2027 roadmap

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced plans for a major Linda Mwananchi meeting in Bungoma later in July 2026, saying the gathering will unveil the opposition’s roadmap towards the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Saturday, July 4, 2026, during the burial of the late Jack Wamboka’s brother in Bungoma County, Sifuna said the opposition would use the meeting to outline its strategy ahead of the next presidential contest.

He said the declaration would not be made at the funeral but at a dedicated political forum that would bring together opposition leaders and supporters.

Bungoma to host major declaration

“The declaration of how we are going into 2027 is not going to happen here. I am going to organise a major meeting as Linda Mwananchi this month here in Bungoma,” Sifuna told mourners.

He added that preparations for the meeting had already begun following consultations with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who had proposed that the opposition first engage residents of Trans Nzoia before converging in Bungoma.

“Mheshimiwa Natembeya has told us to start in Trans Nzoia. Tutakuja Trans Nzoia Jumamosi, then we will come here,” he said.

Politics of persuasion

Sifuna urged the Luhya community to embrace issue-based politics, saying the region had reached a stage where it could legitimately compete for the country’s top seat.

“Nyinyi Waluhya hakuna kitu kinawazuia kwa sababu tumefika mahali pa kugombea urais,” he said.

The senator maintained that the opposition would not force Kenyans to support its agenda but would instead seek to win public confidence through persuasion and better policy alternatives.

“Baba alinifunza siasa ni ushawishi. Hatuwezi kuwalazimisha watu. Lazima uwaonyeshe njia mbadala,” Sifuna said.

He noted that the forthcoming Bungoma meeting would provide the opposition with an opportunity to present its vision and rally support ahead of the 2027 elections.

Condemns political violence

The announcement comes hours after Sifuna condemned an attack on the Linda Mwananchi convoy in Keumbu, Kisii County, describing political violence as a threat to democratic competition.

Speaking at the same burial ceremony, he said the opposition had completed peaceful engagements in Kisii before its convoy was ambushed by stone-throwing groups while travelling towards Keroka.

“Sisi tunataka siasa ambazo watu wanapata fursa ya kueneza sera zao bila kuumizwa,” he said.

Sifuna also claimed he had forwarded video footage of the incident to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and called for investigations into those behind the attack, insisting that all political players should be allowed to campaign freely without intimidation as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.
