Senators to undergo second induction on legislation
By Rawlings, October 7, 2022
Senators will undergo a second induction after it emerged that majority of them still do not understand the law-making process and other parliamentary processes.
Already the Senators have been inducted in House procedures and other legislative activities after they were sworn in on September 8.
Under their House calendar, which they adopted yesterday, the Senators will have a recess between October 28 and November 7, 2022, a time they have now slotted for the second phase of the induction.
Senate Deputy Minority leader Fatuma Dullo, while disclosing that the House leadership had not yet agreed on the venue, explained that the Senators needed a second induction so that they are able to contribute and participate effectively on the floor of the House.
“The members have requested that we have another induction. Only 17 Senators were re-elected and therefore a majority of the Senators need to be inducted on how they should carry out their activities in the House,” said Dullo.
Dullo charged that of all the 67 Senators only 17 are well equipped to undertake legislative duties and activities effectively.
The Isiolo Senator elected on a Jubilee ticket further stated that the majority of the members are yet to understand the standing order, how to draft motions and statements, how to rise on a point of order and how to draft petitions and bills to be tabled before the House.
