Senators Thang’ wa, Methu visit ODM acting leader Oburu Odinga
By Joel Masibo, October 29, 2025Kiambu County Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa and his Nyandarua counterpart John Methu have paid a courtesy call to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party acting leader Oburu Odinga.
In an X statement released on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, Wa Thang’wa confirmed that the two youthful legislators tapped into the wisdom of the Siaya County Senator, as he takes over the mantle of ODM from the former Prime Minister, the late Raila Odinga.
Rare visit
”Early this morning, my brother, Sen. Methu and I paid a courtesy call to the Acting ODM Party Leader and our colleague in the Senate, Sen. Oburu Odinga, at his home. We went to pay our respects and offer comfort, especially as he takes on the great responsibility of stepping into the late Raila Odinga’s shoes. As young leaders, we had the privilege to learn from his deep wisdom, shared through his endless stories and real-life experiences,” Thang’wa said.
On his part, Senator John Methu, who has emerged among the sharp critics of the broad-based government supported by the late Raila Odinga, confirmed their condolences to the bereaved family.

”This morning, in the company of Sen Karungo, we visited our colleague, Sen. Dr Oburu Odinga, to offer our condolences following the sudden passing on of his brother, Raila Odinga. We also congratulated him on his new role as the Party Leader of ODM and wished him well.” Methu took to X.
Oburu takes over ODM
Meanwhile, leaders from across the political divide have been streaming to Kang’o ka Jaramogi to condole with the family of the late ODM party leader, who died on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, while undergoing treatment in India. Raila Odinga was accorded a state burial on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at his Bondo home, Siaya County, with the country’s top leaders in attendance.
The visit comes two days after Oburu Odinga took charge as the acting ODM party leader, visiting Chungwa House, the ODM headquarters, on Monday, October 27, 2025, to mark his first official engagement at the helm following his endorsement by ODM delegates from the four Nyanza counties.
