Senator Omogeni slams Ruto for engaging in early campaigns
By Kiprono Keileb, February 3, 2026Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni has criticised President William Ruto for focusing on political campaigns instead of addressing urgent national issues, particularly in education and healthcare.
The legislator made the remarks during a political talk show hosted by a local television station on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Omogeni said Kenya’s current leadership should prioritise service delivery over political manoeuvring.
“Our laws are very clear; they tell you there is an official campaign period, and that is in our law. You see, in Singapore, where he wants to take us, people are not in campaign mode. Look at the 10 happiest countries in the world, the index has just come out, people are not engaging in campaign like we witness in our country,” Senator Omogeni said.
He expressed concern that essential services, such as the ongoing transition for Grade 10 students and the SHA system in hospitals, were being overlooked amid early political mobilisation.
“The president should be looking at problems in grade 10 transitions and problems facing SHA. In February, we are already in campaign mode. I am told all aspirants of UDA, including those who are defecting, will be in the State House. When will we give services to our people?” Omogeni questioned.
The senator also called on political leaders to hold the government accountable for service delivery rather than participating in partisan politics.
“Who will call out the president if we, as the ODM party, are the ones chairing on what Ruto is doing?” he asked, highlighting what he described as a gap in oversight.
The senator urged the government to focus on delivering promised reforms, ensuring education and healthcare services reach all Kenyans before prioritising campaign activities.
