Sen Omogeni demands action from EACC, DCI on grand corruption cases

Nyamira County Senator Okong’o Omogeni has faulted President William Ruto for focusing on graft in government while allowing accountability to collapse.

Speaking on a local radio station on Monday, August 25, 2025, on the state of governance, Senator Omogeni insisted that institutions tasked with upholding integrity and investigating graft must urgently rise to the occasion amid the renewed war on graft, led by the Head of State.

He, however, called for action against those caught engaging in graft, other than ringing the war bells on corruption while turning a blind eye to accountability in governance issues.

”We must demand answers from NSIS, EACC, and DCI. The executive appears engaged in bribery, while accountability is collapsing. Over 65 youths have been killed for protesting, and with reckless statements from top officials, it seems we are building an ICC file, with the President as a prime candidate,” he warned.

The legislator further questioned how individuals accused of plundering public resources continue to operate with impunity, highlighting a worrying trend of inaction within oversight bodies.

“Institutions tasked with accountability must act. How can someone walk into a government account and withdraw Ksh150 million with no action taken, yet the law requires justification for over Ksh1 million?” he asked, terming the silence of investigative agencies as unacceptable.

Arresting the giver and the taker

Senator Omogeni also reminded Kenyans of past promises made by the President in the fight against corruption, questioning the credibility of such commitments.

Ruto was speaking on corruption in Parliament during the UDA-ODM Parliamentary Group Meeting held in Karen earlier.

“The President told Kenyans he would arrest both the giver and the taker of the Ksh10 million. Yet, the government parted with this money and to date, no action has been taken. This clearly shows the government is engaging in corrupt practices,” he stated.

Omogeni’s remarks come at a time when Kenya is grappling with a series of corruption scandals, coupled with growing public outcry over extra-judicial killings and the state’s handling of dissent.

Civil society groups and opposition leaders have also joined the chorus, demanding urgent reforms to safeguard accountability and protect the democratic space.

President William Ruto has, however, formed a Multi-Agency Team to investigate and report corruption cases alongside the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
