Salasya warns Wetang’ula over involvement in upcoming Malava by-election
By Faith Lagat, October 5, 2025Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has escalated his criticism of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, accusing him of compromising parliamentary neutrality by openly supporting UDA’s David Ndakwa in the upcoming Malava by-election scheduled for November 27, 2025.
Salasya’s comments, captured from a DAP-K rally, highlight growing tensions over Wetang’ula’s involvement in the contest.
“My message to Speaker Moses Masika Wetang’ula, was very loud and clear, whether he wants to continue to serve as a speaker or tutam the chief executive campaigner position while campaigning for the incoming MP Hon. Seth Kuka Panyako in Malava constituency, South Kabras,” Salasya stated.
He warned that continued partisan activity could trigger parliamentary action.
“Speaker Moses Wetangula has made Parliament look like the Executive. If you continue like this, we will not care even if you have only one year left in power; we will bring an impeachment motion against you because you lack respect in leading Parliament,” he said, referencing the Constitution Article 152.

Opposition leaders demand neutrality
The rally also drew sharp remarks from other opposition leaders who called for neutrality in the Malava race. DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa criticised Wetang’ula’s role, saying,
“Watu wazima number 3 in command wewe ni speaker, but you have degraded the government of the Republic of Kenya na ninakubaliana na Salasya a Khalwale, you have lowered the dignity of the house, kama referee, unafaa ukue neutral.”
Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale also weighed in, accusing the government of reverting to outdated political strategies. “Politics of Kenya are controlled by the citizens, sisi tulipiga kura ya kuleta maendeleo, sio ya kurudisha Harambee ya Moi, mambo ya empowerment ni Harambee,” he remarked, urging a focus on development rather than what he described as divisive tactics.
Their remarks underscore rising political friction in Western Kenya as the by-election approaches, with opposition figures framing Wetang’ula’s involvement as a test of institutional impartiality.
Natembeya and Jirongo’s political push
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has intensified his presence in the region, touring Bungoma County on October 4, 2025, in a move aimed at consolidating support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“I concluded my day at Netima in Bungoma County, where I was warmly welcomed by an incredible turnout of supporters. Engaging with the vibrant community was truly inspiring,” Natembeya said.
His visit came amid a series of endorsements, including former KANU stalwart Cyrus Jirongo’s backing of Panyako, announced by Eugene Wamalwa on the same day.
